This development of two phases of cottage flats provides 14 affordable homes for rent, including amenity housing for elderly people.

We created a street of gables, resembling the traditional Scottish fishing villages where gables are presented to the sea in order to reduce exposure.

Buildings are orientated to make the most of solar gain and to minimise heat loss, with larger windows to the south and smaller ones to the north.

The south-west facing roof is used for solar water heating and the development uses a prefabricated structural timber system to provide enhanced thermal insulation and sound insulation at party walls.

The local Community Trust was involved at the design stage and their Employability Team carried out soft landscaping on the raised planters in the shared garden space.
