Scottish Design Award's Finalist

N/A

We're so delighted that our project at Greendykes, Edinburgh has been selected as a finalist at this year's Scottish Design Awards! The project is features in the affordable homes category and the ceremony takes place on 7th September. Fingers crossed!

Greendykes Phase G is a 75 unit housing project for our client, 21st Century Homes in Craigmillar, Edinburgh. The site hosts a mixture of flats, houses and maisonettes for social rent and mid-market rent. They are organised around a courtyard where a communal gardening space has been installed and will be cultivated by the tenants. The design approach has been to keep to a simple palette of materials, using high quality buff brick throughout with contrasting dark grey brick at the corners of the site, reflecting the context found in neighbouring phases of the development. The elevations are expressed through a rational grid, with generously proportioned windows and Juliet balconies. The top floors of all blocks benefit with a double height space to allow for enhanced windows and excellent views of the neighbouring countryside outside Edinburgh.
